Among the many cells in mammals, sperm are the only cells that work away from the body. Sperm flagella are important organs for transmitting male genetic information to oocytes. In mice lacking several genes, the structure of the sperm flagellum is disrupted and motility is significantly reduced. I would like to know what molecular mechanism is used to form the dense structure of the flagellum and how it affects motility.
