Beyond revealing the relationship between meiosis and metabolic enzymes, I was also very surprised by the evolutionary significance of Pdha2 as a testis-specific retrogene. It was especially exciting to use our laboratory’s transgenic techniques to successfully rescue the azoospermia phenotype of Pdha2 knockout mice by overexpressing its parental gene, the X-linked Pdha1.
This work would not have been possible without the dedicated guidance, support, and encouragement from the supervisors. I am also very grateful for the support from collaborators and for the excellent research environment provided by our laboratory, which made the progress smooth and efficient.
Studying meiosis was a challenging journey, but I’m happy to have completed it. This accomplishment has given me great motivation to continue my research.
